Folks on Spokes
Gulf Shores, Alabama

February 16 - 28 2018

Enroute to the Dolphin Cruise.

FOS had a wonderful time as they rode their bikes to Orange Beach and boarded the boats in search of dolphins in Wolfe Bay.

Our boat captain welcomed us aboard.

What a show! The dolphins ride the wake of the two boats and provide us with great photos.

Mary and Morrie seem to be in position to “Captain” the boat!

Lonnie and Bonnie found a perfect place on the boat to view the dolphins.

Forty eight FOS riders gather on February 17 for a ride to Gulf Shores. The word seems to have gotten out... FOS have FUN!

On the way to Rita's.

Ice Cream at Rita’s. What a great way to cool off on a warm February day.

FOS enjoy the sunshine while eating ice cream at Rita’s.

Howard and Rusty ate too much ice cream! They need to rest before biking back to GSP.

Jim and Karen visit with other FOS while waiting for their order to be taken at Rita’s.

FOS continues to grow its membership. This group of 50 riders in mid February illustrates the enthusiasm shown by the members.

Up, up and away! Over the bridge we go!

The challenge was riding over the bridge AFTER eating lunch.

Riding over the bridge was followed by lunch at Colbalts in Orange Beach.

Good friends and good food to share...the best combination!

FOS were treated to a tour of the Marine Fisheries facility in Gulf Shores. We listened as our guide explains the process of hatching cobia and drum for eventual release into the Gulf of Mexico.

The cobia tank had many fish used as breeding stock./b>

Drum swim in a closely monitored tank used to enhance the breeding process./b>

Pete and Margaret are fascinated by the equipment used at the fisheries facility./b>

Dan arranged for this very interesting tour. Thanks, Dan!/b>

FOS loaded their bikes and drove to Santa Rosa Island for a ride along the National Seashore.

We were greeted by beautiful weather and cool breezes as we rode along the seashore.

Taking time for a water break was enhanced by the beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico.

It was time to stop for a snack before heading back to Flounders for lunch.

The shade on the beach was a great place to sit and enjoy the view.

After getting everyone launched on the Magnolia River, Ted joins FOS on another adventure.

Terry and Linda stop for a picture as they paddle the Magnolia.

Fallen trees made us do a turn around and paddle another branch of the river.

No kayak trip is complete until we’ve seen some pelicans.

Another beautiful day to enjoy being with our FOS friends!

FOS celebrated our 10th anniversary with a campfire/pot luck at Jim and Karen’s campsite. This celebration was complete with a cake to mark the occasion.

Mary and Dorothy talk about the memories of the good times shared with FOS.

A warm evening had many people dressing in shorts for the campfire.

A Typical FOS campfire with about 45 average attendees.

The food prepared by these FOS is wonderful with 7 different BBQ types to sample.

Parker and Edith Jenkins contributed a 10 year old FOS Birthday Cake, so we all sang Happy Birthday to ourselves. Other desserts were awesome as well.

A beautiful evening to share with friends.

Ten years of fun, friends and memories. We celebrate the founders of FOS tonight. Thank you Ron, Ardie, Don and Sherry for getting this amazing group started.

FOS gather for a “picnic ride”. Warm weather continues prevail.

Riding on a warm day, a group of FOS stop to cool off in the shade.

Dan has singled himself out as the “slow poke” leader! Which way did they go???

They may be slow pokes, but they always get to their destination!

The “picnic ride” arrived at the park pavilion in time for lunch. Check out the view!

Saturday, our ‘Picnic Lunch’ ride found us at the Beach Pavilion totally enjoying a gorgeous day on the beach, our gourmet lunch, a perfect ride, and fun conversation with the best of friends from all over the Country.

A collection of bikes ‘cooling off’ at the Pavillion waiting to get back on the trail after lunch.

Claudia is ready to ride for lunch at Barefoot Island Grill.

This group of FOS stopped for a picture on the Overlook of Gulf State Park.

Morrie, Mary, Carol and Scott seem to be enjoying their lunch at Barefoot Island Grill.

Dorothy, Bill, Molly and Malcom have time for catching up on news while they enjoy their lunch.

It’s a great day for an ice cream stop at TCBY!
