Folks on Spokes
Gulf Shores, Alabama

February 14 - 29, 2016

Bright beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures made for a great ride on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The group stopped by to see Lefty on Rosemary Dunes Trail. She is enjoying the warm weather as much as FOS.

We stopped for lunch at a favorite place...the Tiki Bar and Grill.

Our kayak group is growing! We kayaked the Bon Secour River on Feb. 17.

We found an abandoned dock and pulled up for lunch.

Several of the ladies enjoyed their picnic lunch sitting on the dock watching for more Dolphins and Pelicans.

Thursday, Feb. 18 was a day to ride for ice cream in Gulf Shores. Seems we have shorts and t shirt weather once again.

Hard decisions, too many great flavored to chose from at Rita's of Gulf Shores (our newest find for good treats!).

We guess FOS have found the secret to a good bike ride!

Sitting on the deck at Rita's was the perfect spot to enjoy our ice cream and the warm sunshine.

Sat. Feb. 20 started with a ride through the park trails and ended with a "Brat Fest" with 42 FOS in attendance.

Mary and Morrie could be heard coming down the street saying "where's the brats?"

Linda, Karen and Sue had more fun talking than eating. What a great week we've had!

Tuesday, February 23 brought severe thunderstorms and tornados to Gulf Shores and the south. Sue captured this storm coming ashore.

The rain came down sideways as everyone headed for shelter.

Tornado warnings were issued for Gulf Shores. Laptops and cell phones monitored the storms as we sought safety in the shelters at GSP. No damage was reported in the campground but the surrounding area was hit hard.

Blue skies return. Feb. 25 saw FOS ready to ride!

Jim gives directions for the ride.

Following the Back Country trails through the park led us to one of our favorite places for a treat!

Morrie and Jean enjoy the sunshine and a cool snack.

Carol and Scott pause just long enough for a picture.

Friday, Feb. 26 was a great day for kayaking Wolfe Creek. FOS had the thrill of paddling with dolphins and observing a "feeding frenzy" as the Pelicans and numerous other birds joined in.

Time for lunch on the sand bar.

Dorothy seems to be enjoying her hot soup.

Linda, Carl, Jim, Karen and Terry are talking about where we'll explore next.

Saturday, Feb. 27, FOS are getting ready to travel to Pensacola Beach for a ride along the Gulf of Mexico.

Ready to roll! FOS are anxious to start pedaling.

The beach ride was beautiful with calm sea conditions and abundant sunshine.

A trip to Flounders following the ride was the perfect way to end the perfect day. Warren and Joann studied the menu for a long time.

The best of friends always find time to be together.

The visit to Flounders following the beach ride has become a yearly tradition. Do you suppose it has anything to do with the key lime pie?

Molly, Malcolm, Steve and Linda all agree it has been a perfect day for FOS.
