January 2017

A beautiful morning to ride as these 'faster' FOS riders enjoy the many new riding opportunities here at the Gulf Shores State Campground. Sassy Bass offered up very tasty options for our lunch, also. Pictured is one of the new wooden trails paralleling Campground road elevated 6-8 feet above the vegetation allowing for great viewing. 22 riders participated.

On January 17th, some 22 FOS bike riders enjoyed the many new trails of GS State Park AND a great lunch at ACME OYSTER HOUSE . Other new trails were being installed as we rode by. The 'faster' group stopped by our FOS Bench for a picture, obviously, the 'half fast' group were on an alternate route to ACME.

Some 22 FOS joined up at ACME for lunch.

Oh yes, we saw a little animal life along the way. Great day on the trails!

Our ride on January 24th was a new trail exploring adventure. Showing is the new Eagle's Nest trail off Lake Shelby Road. Was not totally open but it will give us another mile or so to add to all the wonderful new trails to experienced and completed so far. We did realize that the Lake Shelby Road is NOT safe as traffic was steady and some cars give us far too little clearance.

There is a long walking ramp out to a Lake Shelby fishing dock. A tree broke off and damaged the new trail to the cabins before it's open.

Another look at the new observation/fishing dock off the Eagles Nest Trail.

Both groups met up as we wandered indirectly to Orange Beach for lunch at TikiBar. Perfect riding conditions. We welcomed several new riders today, as well.

And, as always, LEFTY didn't disappoint as we passed by riding Rosemary Trail.

The end of JANUARY you can view, if you sneak in, the new trail just off the end of Rosemary Trail traveling all the way to Middle Lake to the bridge across the canal midway down Lone Oak Road on it's way to around Lake Shelby to the park headquarters.

Lots of pressure treated southern pine.

Todays ride was cooler but a whole lot of fun as evidenced by the smiles on everyone's faces when we stopped to water up.

The kayaking event Friday was successful and provided for a significant number of wildlife sightings. New faces were welcomed and we're looking forward to them joining FOS on the trails soon. We had 9 kayakers for lunch on the river today.

Future paddles are anticipated at least every other week and other times when so promulgated.
