Steve Camarigg has found the perfect destination for our slower riders. Saddle up, Turtles. |
March is here...and so are FOS, ready to ride the trails! |
We are so glad to see some of our FOS wanderers return to GSP! |
Jim has plans for a great ride today. |
Once we're on the trail, Sherry, Carl and Linda get a chance to catch up on winter travels. |
The ride today included a stop at Gulf Shores Beach for a picnic lunch. |
We always wonder what other snowbirds think when they see the bicycles and the "caution green" FOS shirts! |
We must include at least one beautiful picture of the birds we see on our rides. Thanks Sue! |
Thursday, March 3, we couldn't decide whether we should dodge rain showers or go ahead and stretch those legs and get the much needed exercise. |
We decided to ride so we could indulge in our favorite pastime, "lunch out"! |
Hurricane Grill, in Orange Beach, was the perfect place to dodge rain showers and have lunch. |
Molly, Sue and Bruce are having trouble deciding on their order! |
Once we all had lunch, it was time to ride the trails back home. |
Friday, March 4, was another kayak day for FOS and a few friends. Sandy Creek was amazing! |
We are a colorful group! |
The canopy of trees made this paddle one of the prettiest we've experienced. |
Pelicans kept us entertained with their crazy antics. |
Looks like Jim and Peter are ready to ride on Saturday, March 5. |
After much discussion (????!!!) we decided an ice cream ride was the perfect plan for this warm and sunny day. |
OK, Karen and Jim, did you leave any for the rest of our FOS? |
It's hard to deny, FOS had a commanding presence when we arrived at Matt's for ice cream! |
Bruce, Darrold, Dave and Steve seem to be catching up on all the news at the Welcome Back Campfire held March 7. Many FOS returned from winter travels. |
Bobbi, Phyllis, Molly, Nancy, Sherry and Mary are all smiles as they join in the fun. |
Pretty ladies Sue, Kim and Shari are saying it's time to eat! |
Peter and Betty just returned from their winter stay in Arizona. |
Warren always finds a way to tell Ardie and Molly one of his great stories! |
Terry, Sue, Kim and Linda are chatting a little before dinner. |
There is never a shortage of food at our campfires! |
Forty four FOS attended the Welcome Home campfire. |
Tuesday, March 8, was a windy day. However in true FOS style, 22 riders were ready to go on a picnic ride to Wolfe Bay. |
Larry, Phyllis, Betty and Peter have just returned to GSP from their winter travels. FOS are SO glad they are back! |
JoAnn and Carl are ready to eat! |
Linda, Shary, Larry and Terry are enjoying the sunshine and the views of Wolfe Bay as the eat their picnic lunches. |
Thursday, March 10, FOS held a dedication of the "Ron Griffin Memorial Bike Fix It Station." The procession of bikes and people attending was so impressive. |
The colorful procession of FOS bikers was a true tribute to Ron as one of our founders of FOS. |
Bikers from years past and present came to the ceremony. |
The "people mover" was used to bring additional friends and family to the dedication site near the corner of the trails Catman and Rosemary Dunes. |
The People Mover was filled to capacity. |
As the procession moved through the park we remembered the many times Ron rode his bike along these trails. |
FOS felt the bike fix it station was a great way to honor Ron. So many bikers will benefit from using it as they need bike repairs along the Backcountry Trails. |
The bike fix it station is ready for dedication. |
Ardie, Ron's wife, and their family are here for the dedication. |
FOS listen as Jim tells about the founding of FOS and the progress made since Ron, Ardie, Don and Sherry began the group in 2006. We've come a long way! |
FOS gather around the Fix It Station to celebrate Ron's life. |
Ardie continues to ride with the group at every opportunity. |
