About Us

History of organization.

In the early winter of 2008/2009 at Gulf State Park, Alabama, snow birds Ardith & Ron Griffin and Don & Sherry Anderson decided to ride their bikes together regularly. It wasn't long before other campers joined them, forming a group of about 13 riders the first year, 20 the second year, growing continually to this year's roster boasting 120 riders from many US states and Canadian provinces.

FOS bike rides usually take place three times each week, ranging from 10-30 miles each time and speeds averaging 8-12 MPH. Riders of all abilities are accommodated wereby groups are formed at each outing, based on length of ride, speed of ride and anticipated destination.

Many special rides are scheduled for the group through the year consisting of: weekly bonfires, occasional pot lucks, tours of local attractions, trucking bikes to other "out of Gulf Shores area" locations to numerous remote trails. "Off Winter Season" FOS reunite at selected locations for extended trail riding in many other states. These reunions last up to 10 days of fun, bike riding, outdoor pleasures, and fellowship. Several couples have organized and hosted these activities in their respective states. For example, "Katy Trail", Missouri; Cedar Valley Trail in Cedar Falls/Waterloo, Iowa; and Traverse City Michigan area trails. Daily rides usually include lunch (picnic or restaurant) or ice cream stops.
